The film: The documentary Shusenjo: The Main Battleground of the Comfort Women Issue will be screened on Thursday, February 6 in INTS 1128 at UCR, followed by a Q&A with its director Miki Dezaki. Dezaki will introduce his feature-length documentary on the “comfort women” issue. This film is not only the most recent and comprehensive account of the "comfort women" issue that has inflamed tensions between Japan and its East Asian neighbors, especially Korea. It is also the first to show how right-wing groups in Japan have collaborated with right-wing and white nationalist American ideologues to create tensions between the Japanese American and Korean American communities around this issue. The comfort women issue has moved from a domestic arena to the international stage. The controversy has resulted in fractured sister-city relations between the US and Japan, and has sparked a series of protests against statues commemorating the comfort women as well as broader discussions of human rights and women’s r.

Miki Dezaki, a Youtuber who was threatened and harassed by Japan`s notorious netouyo (cyber neo-nationalists) for his video on racism in Japan, is not shying away from controversial topics with his debut feature length documentary on the comfort women issue.
